Active Sun
During late October and Early November 2003, the Sun became exceptionally active producing the most violent outbursts ever recorded - some hit the Earth's protective magnetic shield causing extensive auroral activity which was seen as far south as Spain and Florida. Ray's picture bears testimony to extent of the sunspot activity which has occurred. The largest spot visible is several times larger than the planet Jupiter!
